Is Invisalign Right For Me?
Boston Center for Oral Health is a Back Bay Dentist and provider of Invisalign in the Boston Back Bay area, providing many candidates with an alternative to traditional braces while still achieving the same great results.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign braces straighten your teeth using a custom-made series of clear, virtually invisible aligners. The aligners are made of smooth and comfortable plastic and are worn over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements your orthodontist plans out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten.
Although Invisalign is recognized as one of the easiest and most comfortable solutions for patient's with orthodontic issues, it is not for everyone. While consulting with our Back Bay Dental Invisalign providers is the only surefire way to determine your candidacy, the following are some key questions to consider:
How old are you?
Invisalign is perfect for older teenagers and adults. However, children and young teenagers do not always make good candidates for Invisalign because their teeth are still growing.
How dedicated are you to fix your smile?
Although treatment is relatively easy, it comes with an option that other orthodontics do not provide – you can remove them. In fact, you are required to remove your aligners when you eat and drink (except for water). Other than these instances, Invisalign must remain in your mouth for no less than 22 hours per day.
Will you be diligent when it comes to putting them BACK IN after you have eaten your daily meals?
What are you hoping to resolve with your smile?
Invisalign has a difficult time fixing cases that are too severe. Here is a list of situations Invisalign can treat:
- Gapped teeth
- Crowded teeth
If you have gone through these considerations and are convinced Invisalign is right for you, the following information will help you understand what is involved with getting Invisalign treatment and how to care for your Invisalign braces.
What does getting Invisalign involve?
After one of our Boston dentists takes impressions of your teeth and has a series of custom-made aligners fabricated, treatment will involve wearing each set of aligners for approximately two weeks before a new set is introduced. With each new set, teeth will be moved into a straighter position until your treatment is complete. Unlike braces, these clear aligners can conveniently be removed while you eat and brush your teeth. You’ll achieve straight teeth and a confident smile with little interference in your daily life.
You will receive care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment. Patients will often have a metal retainer created to ensure long-lasting results with regular wear at night time. Proper brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits will ensure that your straight teeth remain healthy for years to come.
